Photocopy Forgery Photocopy forgery is not just limited to just the signature on a document. Photocopies can be prepared from a composite of parts of two or more documents which when copied, can appear to be a reproduction of a single document. Indications of suspect fake documents may take the form of the following:
Different fonts and different font sizes
Misaligned preprinted matter
Incorrect vertical, horizontal and margin spacing
"Shadowing" in the joined areas
Disproportionate area sizes
Different preprinted material and ink densities
Missing portions of writing or printing (covered by the paste-up that is too closely trimmed or masked by an opaque fluid)
Digital "Cut and Paste" by Photoshop
"Trash Marks" surrounding the signatureBest indication of a fraudulent photocopy is when the original document has "disappeared" or has been "misplaced"
The safest way to make a final determination of what is genuine is to examine, original vs original. However, with modern technology available, many photo copied documents and virtual signatures can appear to be genuine, when in fact they can be a complete fabrication. Either way, close examination is a must that can not be rushed to make a final conclusion.
